Cinigiano is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Grosseto in the Italian region Tuscany, located about 100 km south of Florence and about 25 km northeast of Grosseto. It has a population of 2,624 and an area of 161.4 km².
Cinigiano borders the following municipalities: Arcidosso, Campagnatico, Castel del Piano, Civitella Paganico, Montalcino.
The municipality of Cinigiano contains the frazioni
(subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Capanne Ricci,
Castiglioncello Bandini, Monticello Amiata, Piantaverna,
Poggi del Sasso, Porrona, Borgo Santa Rita and
Sasso d'Ombrone.
Porrona is one of the most preserved villages in Tuscany.
The village dates back to the XII century. The castle
belonged to Tolomei and Piccolomini, ancient noble
families from Siena.
Monticello Amiata is located at 735 meters above
sealevel. It still has old citywalls which are well
preserved, because there still live people above
them.
From Cinigiano it is about 35 minutes to the next
skiingstation and about 45 minutes to the coast
nearby Grosseto.
